Before you apply for a building permit, please ensure you understand the property's zoning regulations and that your proposal is in compliance with our zoning by-law. Visit the Seguin Data Hub to determine your zoning designation and consult the zoning by-law for permitted uses. Our Planning staff are happy to assist with any clarifications you may require.

If the property is vacant, you must have an approved entrance (not required on private roads) and an assigned civic address from the township prior to applying for a building permit. You can apply for an entrance permit through our Roads department and obtain a civic address (fire route 9-1-1 number) through our Fire Services department.

Segun Township uses Cloudpermit for all building permits. Cloudpermit is an online system that streamlines the process of applying for, processing, and managing building permits. Please refer to this step by step video on getting started, should you require assistance, please contact our office or Cloudpermit support centre.

Building permits are required to ensure construction meets minimum safety and building standards. In general, a permit is needed for any work that involves erecting, installing, extending, altering, changing the use of, or repairing a building. A “building” refers to any structure with an area greater than 10 square meters (107 square feet).

You must obtain an occupancy permit from the township prior to occupying a building or part of a building. It is a contravention of the Building Code Act to occupy a building prior to the completion of a final inspection and authorization to occupy issued by the CBO. An occupancy permit is a legal requirement to ensure that the building is safe and suitable for use, without it, you risk legal issues, insurance problems, and safety risks.
